New Rainforestkid.com Contributor
We would like to welcome Dylan to the site as a new contributor to the Rainforestkid.com campaign to help raise funds for the The Children's Eternal Rainforest in Monteverde Costa Rica. Dylan is the most recent student from my school who has been fortunate enough to experience the rainforest trip with Rainforest Rachel and his family.
Dylan has written a great story of his trip, which you can find here, and has also allowed us to add some of his photos to the photo page. Be sure to check them out!

My New Goal
As I share what I have learned about the rainforest I want to keep raising money for the Children's Eternal Rainforest. Under "Goals" you can see my goals and the progress I am making on them. I am very excited to say that Principia is going to be having the read-a-thon again in January!! We record all the reading we do during a special week in January after collecting pledges. I would like to get pledges from people all over the world if possible for the new read-a-thon. If you are interested in making a pledge please fill out the form here. I will get back to you with all the details as it gets closer and make sure you still want to participate. I plan to read LOTS and raise more than I did last year. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

My Fundraiser Update
I had a Pampered Chef Fundraiser on September 29th to raise money for The Children's Eternal Rainforest and Principia's Hurricane Katrina Fund. It was a big success. I had lots of people place orders and even got some donations! I was able to raise $504.10 all together. I had fun sharing my pictures from the rainforest with the people who were able to come to the party. Even a few of my friends were able to come and help with the show. I am really grateful for all the orders and donations I received. Thanks to everyone for making it such a success!!

What is this all about?
In the 2004-2005 school year, Second and Fifth graders of The Principia participated in a read-a-thon to raise money for the rainforest. The students asked family and friends to pledge money on a per page basis. Within a weeks time, the students read as much as possible, often sacrificing free-time to get in extra pages.
Across the country other schools were also conducting fund-raisers to collect funds for the Children's Eternal Rainforest in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Of the many schools participating, three schools were selected as raising the most money.
The following schools were declared the winners:
- Principia Lower School, St Louis, Missouri, $3644
- Hockinson Intermediate, Brush Prairie, Washington $1763
- Little Red School House, Greenwich Village, NY. $1113
Once the announcement was made that The Principia was among the top three schools in the nation, it was decided that there would be an essay contest amongst the students of the Second and Fifth grade classes to decide who would ultimately receive the grand prize of a trip to the rainforest.
Once all the essays were in and reviewed by the administration, it was decided that Jordan would be the student to have the honor to represent The Principia, and make the trip to the rainforest.
In Jordan's winning essay, she promised to create a website to help share the experience and information she was about to receive on her adventure to the rainforest of Costa Rica.
This is that website.
As the trip draws closer, this site will slowly take form, and more content will be added. Please check back soon. Thanks!
